Nice new brewpub located in downtown Saint Joseph. The building dates back to 1900, and served as a food storage facility. They had 12 beers on tap. Open seven days a week.
A unique feature: they will smoke beer to order, by injecting hickory smoke into a glass chamber and bringing it tableside. The smoke flavor infuses itself into the beer during the process creating the first known Live Smoked Beer.
BEER:
Ginger the Blonde Ale (3.50) – Perfectly acceptable blonde ale, medium body, low hop bitterness.
So Heffen Good Hefeweizen (4.25) – Excellent banana/clove character, classic Hefeweizen.
Das Gute Zeug Oktoberfest (3.75) – Nice level of malt-derived sweetness, could use a higher level of malt; acceptable Oktoberfest.
From the Thumb Porter (nitro) (5.00) – Malty and roasted goodness, outstanding example of the style.
Sunrise Breakfast Stout (4.25) – Hearty, robust, roasted malt character; dry, crisp, flavor, no hop bitterness.
