Unpretentious taproom with a nice view of the brewing operation. There were
31 beers on tap. Included were 8 IPAs, 3 of which double IPAs. That’s a lot of IPAs!
BEER:
Ash Tree ESB (3.50) – Amber colored ale. Malty sweetness evident, but needs more. Hop bitterness balances well with malt character. Lingers a bit too long in aftertaste. Would be a candidate for “ESB Lite,” if such a thing existed.
Capital Gold Vienna Lager (3.00) – Light amber appearance. Hop bitterness not in balance with malt sweetness. Lingers too long into aftertaste. Recipe needs more caramel or roasted malts. Falls well short of a classic Vienna.
Moonstruck Golden Sour Wild Ale (3.00) – Straw yellow ale. Tartness rules the day. Grapefruit is the dominant flavor. Hop bitterness hardly there, as expected.
Over The Ivy Czech Pilsner (3.00) – Golden appearance. Medium-bodied, possibly too light for this style. Hop bitterness not in line with expected noble hops character. A nice pilsner, but not in the same league as a classic Czech Pilsner.
Sleepover Smores Imperial Stout (4.50) – Black, opaque appearance. Big, sweet stout. Vanilla and chocolate aspects dominate. Hop bitterness barely detectable. 9.7% ABV cloaked nicely.
The Cherry Lime Wizard Fruited Sour (3.75) – Sharp, red appearance. Lime aspects come to the forefront. Cherry flavors definitely in the background. Acidity from lime not over the top.
