Large, impressive brewpub in the Heritage Square Mall near South Bend, Indiana. Brewmaster Joel Miller focuses on creating traditional beer with a dash of New World Spirit.
Closed on Tuesdays. Open Mon, Wed, Thu 4pm-10pm; Fri 4pm-12am; Sat 11am-12am, Sun 11am-9pm. 18 beers on tap.
BEER:
Bier Helles Lager (2.75) – Needs more malt to improve body; reasonably drinkable.
Freudian Lips Vienna Lager (2.50) – Lacking in body; needs malty sweetness to be a true Vienna lager.
Batch 80 Brett Saison (3.50) – Fresh, light-bodied Saison; touch of fruity character hits the right notes.
Death by Porter (3.75) – Bold, roasted, malty character; a bigger dose of of roasted malt needed.
Battle Axed Oatmeal Stout (4.25) – Roasted character shines; excellent dry stout.
Bad Reputation Belgian Dark Strong (4.00) – Smooth and sweet, with subtle fruity overtones; 9.2% ABV not noticeable.
FOOD:
They use organic, non-GMO antibiotic free meat, locally sourced produce; bread, dressings, sauces and stocks are made in-house from scratch. Choose from Appetizers, Salads, Handhelds (such as brats, burgers and pulled pork) and Large Plates (steak, pork chop, salmon, etc). An interesting option is the Schnitzel and Waffles, local pasture-raised pork and choice of sweet or savory waffle.
