Large modern brewpub with a rooftop deck, live music. Open daily. Free brewery tours Saturday and Sunday at Noon.

The brewmaster, John Russell, is originally from Kansas. When he’s not brewing the Lone Girl beers, John works as an Assistant Scientist in the Division of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the UW-Madison School of Medicine, where he also got his PhD.

Eleven beers on tap. We sampled the following:

BEER:
Towhead Belgian Blonde (4.25) – Medium-bodied blonde ale with a healthy dose of malty sweetness; 7% ABV not at all evident; very smooth profile.
Red Banks Amber Ale (4.25) – Sweet, malty, smooth, beautifully balanced; reminiscent of a Newcastle Brown Ale.
Summer Lovin’ Mango Wheat (3.50) – A nice balance between mango tartness and wheat maltiness; lovely summer quencher.
Double Trubbel Belgian Dubbel (4.50) – Sweet, malty dubbel; a great example of style; the presence of apricot is an enlightened enhancement on the character of a dubbel.
Sweet Baby Stout (2.75) – The coffee flavor overwhelms the stout character.

FOOD:
The menu has a decent variety of appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, along with a couple of pastas, fish and chips, and beef stew entrees.

Check out the fish tacos: beer-brined fried haddock filets, fresh coleslaw, a watermelon/cilantro/cucumber pico, salsa verde and crumbled cotija cheese; or the grilled cheese: a mixture of melted provolone, cheddar, and Swiss on toasted sourdough with a side of tomato-basil bisque.
