The original brewery was called the Christian Moerlein Brewery, a longtime staple of the Cincinnati beer universe. The brewery specialized in a wide range of classic German beer styles. Gregory Hardman purchased the brewery in 2004.
The Moerlein Lager House is a full-service restaurant, located walking distance from Great American Ballpark. The restaurant occupies a very large footprint and offers seating on an expansive patio or on the rooftop.
Eight beers were on tap for this visit.
BEER:
Barbarossa Munich Dunkel (3.50) – Amber/brown lager, medium body. An addition of roasted malt would help both in flavor and appearance. A fine example of the style.
Philippus Kirsche Kolsch (3.25) – Crisp-tasting German ale. Hop bitterness might be a touch too strong. Reducing the amount of hops or adding more malt would improve balance.
