New Oberpfalz Brewing takes its name from a district in Bavaria called the Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate). The Oberpfalz is located in the northeast corner of Bavaria and comprises the frontier between Nürnberg, Germany and the German/Czech border. It is a rugged landscape, rich in brewing history, and home to many great beers.
New Oberpfalz brewed its first batch of beer in 2014. According to their website, their mission will always be to brew the best beer in the world. “We produce beer and food of unique and exceptional quality using the finest ingredients while applying science, sustainability, and craftsmanship to all we do.”
They are open Tue-Thu 3-10pm; Fri-Sat 11am-10pm; Sun 11am-7pm. Nine beers on tap, as well as guest drafts, cider, wine and soda.
German Pils (4.50) – Clean, crisp lager; hint of sweetness; solidly hopped.
Smoked Helles (3.50) – Well built lager; smoky character not overpowering.
Elucidator Doppelbock (3.75) – Amber colored bockbier, sweet and malty character; appropriate for style; addition of more roasted and dark malts would make this beer great.
Hopwagen IPA (3.75) – Hoppy, medium-bodied IPA; nice balance between malt character and hop bitterness.
Helles Lager (4.25) – Smooth, easy drinking lager; lightly hopped; pleasant malty sweetness.
The taproom menu rotates seasonally offers daily and weekly specials using local, fresh ingredients. They serve organic chicken, cage-free eggs, grass-fed beef. The menu is split into Starters and Share Plates, Handhelds and Entrees, and Grass Fed Beef Burgers. Vegetarian options are available, including the Beyond Burger Meat Free Patty. We tried the basic Oberpfalzer Burger and it was excellent.
