Sprawling venue that is a farm, brewery, restaurant, and market. They feature house-brewed beers, wines, cider, and an extensive food menu as well as a bakery. Wines are a collaborative effort with local wineries. There were six beers on tap when we visited. Sadly, they only offer full pours, so we were limited to just three beers during our visit.
BEER:
Czech Pale Lager (4.75) – Straw yellow appearance. Medium bodied lager. Bready character prominent. Hop bitterness a major player, but expertly balanced. No significant level of floral hops in bouquet.
Dark Mild (4.50) -Dark brown appearance. Malt character dominates flavor profile. Roasted character prominent. Low-key coffee notes round things out. Low level of hop bitterness, as appropriate. Balance in favor of the malt aspects. Beer is can conditioned, so there is not a high degree of carbonation.
Extra Special Bitter (4.00) – Light amber appearance. Light- to medium-bodied English ale. Hop bitterness occupies a significant part of the flavor profile. Light caramel aspects detected. Malt character and hop bitterness well balanced. Bitter aftertaste lingers somewhat.
Ordinary Bitter (4.50) – Light amber appearance. Head lingers nicely on glass. Medium-bodied ale, smooth and drinkable. Hop bitterness properly balanced. Bitterness lingers into aftertaste. Fruity overtones unexpected, but not objectionable. Served on cask.
North German Pilsner (5.00) – Straw yellow appearance. Crisp, medium-bodied lager. Solid dose of noble hops, which lingers into aftertaste. Balance between malt sweetness and hop bitterness approaches perfection. As good as any pilsner produced in Germany.
Schwarzbier (5.00) – Very dark brown appearance, nearly opaque. Massive, bold mouthfeel. Roasted malt goodness in abundance. Chocolate and toffee notes detected. Hop bitterness a minor player, as expected. As good as any German brewed Schwarzbier.
Spelt Saison (5.00) – Pale straw appearance, somewhat hazy. Belgian lace evident. Incredibly smooth mouthfeel. Excellent balance with respect to hop bitterness. Fruity character in place, but not overpowering. Dry finish, slightly bitter aftertaste lingers. Yeast locally harvested from plum trees. Outstanding example of style.
