The brewery opened as The Wild Onion Brewing Company in 1996, and the taproom and pub became a reality in 2003. The timberframe is built from recycled timbers that pre-date the American Revolution, while the building is perched on a restored gravel quarry that holds water for the local watershed. It is a popular wedding venue with views of the lake; they have three banquet rooms that can accommodate up to 250 guests. Open every day except Monday.
17 beers on tap. Complimentary pretzel sticks offered at the bar are a nice touch.
BEER:
Short Straw Witbier (2.50) – Very light bodied, as per style; far too much citrus flavor.
Zwickl Kellerbier (4.00) – Solid balance between maltiness and a hint of bittering hops; very true to the style.
Radio Free Pilsner (3.25) – This beer needs more malt and hop bitterness to be a genuine Czech pilsner.
Phat Chance Blonde (2.75) – Light-bodied blonde ale; not very adventurous; definite lawnmower beer.
Hanzenfranz Dortmunder (4.25) – Medium bodied, hugely drinkable; excellent balance in malt bill; terrific example of the style.
Paddy Pale Ale (3.75) – Medium-bodied pale ale; lightly hopped, eminently drinkable.
Annihilator Doppelbock (4.50) – Big, bold, malty; checks all of the boxes for a Doppelbock.
Jack Stout (3.00) – Needs an injection into the malt bill; mouthfeel is a bit thin.
FOOD:
Full menu of American classics and comfort food. In our opinion, the food quality has improved recently, which will bring us there more often.
They have Starters, Homemade Soups, Gourmet Salads, Signature Pizzas, Burgers, Sandwiches, Entrees, Specials and a Kids menu, something for everyone.
