Illinois’ largest independently-owned brewery. Crowded, energetic atmosphere on Milwaukee Ave. They grew so popular that that have another brewery and taproom on Kedzie Ave.
Open daily at 11am; Sat and Sun at 10am. Nineteen beers on tap.
BEER:
Cross of Gold Golden Ale (3.75) – Truly drinkable golden ale that does not skimp on the malt; nice hop bitterness in the aftertaste.
Bottom Up Wit (4.75) – Outstanding example of the style; very light-bodied, almost no hop bitterness; fruity aftertaste.
Oktoberfest (3.50) – Solid Oktoberfest beer; sweet and malty, highly drinkable.
Rev Pils (4.50) – Hits the bullseye for German pilsner style; terrific balance of maltiness and hop bitterness.
Sun Crusher American Wheat Ale (4.25) – A nice little wheat ale with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish; adventurous departure from plain old wheat ale.
Eugene Porter (3.50) – Hearty, roasted malt flavor; adding more malt to the grain bill would help.
FOOD:
Outstanding food, with fresh and creative twists. Not a very large menu, but everyone should be satisfied with the selection: Appetizers, Salads, Pizzas, Sandwiches, Entrees, plus daily specials. Brunch served on weekends. Free range and organic meats, vegetarian options available.
