Breaking Brew Meadery in Dallas provides a terrific example of the various creative approaches that are used in the fermentation of mead. Their comfortable taproom is a delightful setting for trying out their range of still and sparkling meads on tap.
With small breweries cropping up like spring flowers, the folks at Breaking Brew are aiming at a market that might be “beered out.” And they may be on to something, noting that their mead stand has attracted large audiences at beer festivals. People looking for something different may well get turned on to mead.
Breaking Brew’s owner and head meadmaker is a passionate fellow who really knows his mead. He provided extensive explanations of his choices for various fruit adjuncts added to his mead formulations in a patient and friendly manner that makes you want to try just one more to see how it differs from your current selection.
Although the taproom is tucked away in the middle of a suburban office complex, it is well worth an hour of any beer lover’s time to try a flight at Breaking Brew.
We sampled a variety of delicious and refreshing meads, such as: The Magician (made with Texas wildflowers), Raspberry Beret, Ginger Bear, Bee Sting (with jalapenos added), Ruby Solstice (tart with cranberry and tarragon) and Cherry Noir.
