Massive taproom in a huge building that looks like a repurposed factory. Rather spartan in appearance. Back wall is set up for a series of pinball machines. There were 17 beers on tap when we visited.
BEER:
Boathouse Bohemian Pilsner (3.75) – Golden appearance. Somewhat lighter bodied than expected. Hop level is aggressive, as appropriate. A higher level of noble hops are preferred, rather than the floral variety. Bigger malt bill would improve this beer.
Dark Helmet Schwarzbier (3.75) – Black, opaque appearance. Roasted character, is present, but should dominate the flavor profile. A sweet, caramel aspect comes to the forefront instead. Hop bitterness is well balanced with malty sweetness.
Dark Horizon Dark Czech Lager (3.75) – Dark brown color. Sweet, malty character is the main component in flavor profile. Roasted and caramel aspects detected. Malt level needs to be increased to be a top beer. Hop bitterness at the correct level and properly balanced.
Wild Card Passion Fruit and Peach Sour (4.00) – Yellow, hazy appearance. Packed with fruity flavors that work together harmoniously. Flavor is sweet and sour, but no pucker-inducing character. Hop bitterness near zero, as appropriate. Smooth, highly drinkable.
