Massive taproom with a view into the brewing operation. The vibe in the taproom is relaxed and low-key. There were 26 beers on tap when we visited.
BEER:
Buzzy Badger Coffee Ale (4.25) – Dark brown, amber appearance. Brown ale is the basis for the recipe. Coffee character shines through but doesn’t overwhelm the flavor profile. Vanilla aspects sit in the background. Malty sweetness blends nicely with the adjuncts. Presence of rye and spices results in a complex mix of flavors.
Dark Tides Black IPA (4.50) – Black, nearly opaque appearance. Big and bold malt character. Roasted aspects are on target for this style. Chocolate and coffee notes in evidence. Strong dose of hop bitterness, but it’s not the sledgehammer seen in the biggest IPAs.
Jet-Ski German Pilsner (2.00) – Golden color. Body is too light for style, needs a stronger malt character. Very low level of hop bitterness, also too weak for style. Recipe contains lemon, which doesn’t help solve the other problems.
On Wisconsin! American Amber Ale (4.25) – Amber, copper color. Medium-bodied ale, malty sweetness dominates. Caramel notes ate present. Flavor profile has high level of complexity. Hop bitterness is also in the forefront. Good balance with the malt bill successfully achieved.
Pull Tab Bier Kellerbier (3.75) – Very light amber appearance. Slight cloudiness or haziness is typical for style, beer was clear. Light- to medium-bodied lager. Hints of bready notes are detected. Hop bitterness balances malty sweetness effectively.
WI Bien Mexican Lager (3.00) – Golden appearance. Rather light-bodied, typical for style. Presence of lime is evident, but not excessive. Lime character does not enhance flavor profile. Very low level of hop bitterness, as expected.
