Porter
Big, roasted richness abounds in a well-brewed porter. The border between porter and its cousin, stout, is fuzzy, as the two styles share many of the same flavor characteristics. The key element to every good porter is that roasted malt character. The best ones have it in abundance.
Porter is one of the most venerable English beer styles, but porters have gained a lot of traction in the US recently. The Boulder Shake Chocolate Porter is a special variant of the porter style, with a generous helping of chocolate in the recipe. Other excellent porters include Deschutes Big Butte Porter and Scorched Earth’s Rugged Coalminer.
