Maibock
May is the time for festivals in Germany, and what better way to celebrate than with a season-specific beer? Like many bock beers, Maibocks have a healthy alcohol kick that stays hidden until it's time to get up from the table. The Maibock style, however, differs from other bock variants owing to its lighter color. Doppelbocks, for example, are distinguished by their coffee-amber color, thanks to the presence of a healthy amount of roasted malts. Maibocks are hearty and malty, and notes of sweetness make this beer smooth as silk. Spaten Maibock is a superior example of the style, and you can hardly go wrong with the product of any German example of Maibock. The only domestically brewed Maibock that even comes close to matching its German counterparts is the Magisterium Maibock from Church Street Brewing Company in Itasca, IL.
