Doppelbock is characterized by a brown-black color that is high on the malt content and high on the alcohol content. “The Velvet Hammer” is an appropriate description for the style.
Ayinger Celebrator is one the best examples of this style. Others include Spaten Optimator and Pontificator from Church Street Brewing.
